Body Shape: Vivacious 'V' Shape Bodies

Saturday, November 05, 2011

So your upper body is a touch larger than your lower body.

You might have broad shoulders, an impressive bust, a waist that disappears, narrow hips and slim gorgeous legs.

Your measurements across the bust and hips will be pretty similar.

'V' might as well stand for Va Va VOOM in this case – you lucky V-shapers have a head start on so many levels!

Your legs are FANTASTIC, and you really do have a gorgeous, strong upper body.

What we try to emphasise with you V-shapers is the waist area, as it can so often slip into obscurity above those legs and below that décolletage.

Some peeps think the 'V' shape relates to overweight or curvy women – rubbish! Absolute poppycock.

To illustrate the point, one of the best known V shapes out there is the stunning Miss Jolie – yep, the feminine half of the Brangelina duo.

Angelina really knows how to work her body shape (mind you, it helps when you have a dedicated team of stylists at the ready…) often wearing lovely simple flowing gowns with impressive cleavage features to draw the eye up.

Balance your look with these tips

Create the illusion of a wider bottom half to balance out your upper body by wearing flowing dresses or wide legged pants.

Draw attention away from your tummy and upwards towards your gorgeous bust by opting for v-necks, scoop and sweetheart necklines.

Look for simple designs that will lengthen your body shape – no flounces or frills here!

Ball dresses for V-shapes

Empire and A-line dresses are the key here; empire dresses will lengthen your overall silhouette, and will draw the eye away from any tummy problems.

If you go A-line (another fine choice) just be sure to choose a dress with some boning in the bodice, and if it’s a floor length gown then rock that split in the skirt – show off your luscious legs ladies!

Colours for V-shapes

Who says you can’t wear bright bold patterns? Of course you can! Bring out the tiger stripes you V beauties, but try to keep them on the lower half of your body.

That way you can keep your upper body in a darker, more subtle colour; once more taking the focus away from the tum. Don’t forget to enhance your female wiles with a dash of ingenuity around the bust-line.

Shoes for V-shapes

Wedges and chunky yet sleek heels are the way to go for you V’s. Watch out for those stilettos, they won’t do anything to balance out your body shape. Keep it funky but chunky ladies!

DO emphasise your face, hips, legs and breasts with balancing designs that draw the eye up to your décolletage.

DON’T draw attention to your upper torso with shiny, patterned materials or ruffles and halter tops.

Celebrity V’s

Elle McPherson, Liz Hurley, Victoria Beckham, Angelina Jolie, Tyra Banks, Catherine Zeta Jones and Jessica Simpson.
